Group Classes

Payment and Refunds

The place on a course is yours once payment (£75) has been received. Places cannot be reserved or held unless agreed by the company under exceptional extenuating circumstances - this is at the company's discretion.

If you wish to cancel your place on a course, a refund minus a 15% admin fee (£63) will be issued if the place is cancelled with more than 7 working days notice. Places cancelled with less than 7 working days notice will be refunded minus a 15% admin fee (£63) if the place can be filled by someone else. If the place remains unfilled by the course start date, a refund will not be issued.

If you are unable to make your selected course and wish to transfer to a different course, this must be done with more than 7 working days notice. If you wish to transfer with less than 7 working days notice, a refund minus 15% admin fee (£63) will be issued if the place can be filled. If the place remains unfilled, you will be issued a refund minus 15% admin fee (£63) and you may then book onto a new course start date that suits you.

Should you begin attending a course and then become unable to continue, refunds will not be issued unless under exceptional extenuating circumstances, at the company's discretion. If you wish to transfer to a new course cate with us, you able to do so minus the 15% admin fee (new course would be £63 to join).

Behaviour Referrals

If during your group class your dog exhibits atypical or problem behaviours, we may recommend you do some work on a one-to-one basis, in addition to continuing in your group class. Group classes train new skills and prevent future problems; they are not by nature suitable for addressing individual dog's ingrained problem behaviours, which really require considered investigation and treatment. For this reason, one-to-one sessions will be recommended. If your dog doesn't cope well in a group class environment and we feel they would benefit more from individual tuition then your outstanding course fees will be used as a discount on any individual training sessions booked within a four month period of your original course start date.

If we feel your dog would benefit from working with a qualified behaviourist, we will help you locate an appropriately qualified practitioner.

Children In Class

Any minors (under 18) attending classes, must be accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 4 may struggle to concentrate in group classes and all young children attending may benefit from having an activity to do during periods where they're not directly involved in training. We're more than happy for you to bring electronic devices, provided headphones are used. If you have more than one child attending with you, we ask that you bring an additional adult with you. This helps keep everyone calmly on task and lessens the pressure on the person trying to train the dog whilst keeping children calm and safe etc.

One-To-One
Training Sessions

Individual Training Session

The fee for the session (£45) is to be paid in full at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you believe you have exceptional extenuating circumstances which prevent you from doing this, please let us know and we can discuss alternative options.

Sessions cancelled with more than 7 days notice can either be refunded minus a 15% admin fee (£31) or a new date for the session can be arranged at a mutually agreeable time. Sessions cancelled with less than 7 days notice will receive a partial refund (50%), unless under exceptional extenuating circumstances, in which case refunds are at the company's discretion.

Session Attendance

We recommend anyone involved in the day to day care of your dog to attend as many of these sessions as possible, so that everyone is on the same page. All minors (under 18) attending sessions will need to be accompanied by an adult. Our insurance does not cover us to work independently with minors; should we arrive to find that there is no accompanying adult, the session will be terminated and refund terms will be applied.

Puppy Pre-School Sessions, Workshops and Short Courses

Places cancelled more than 7 days before the event will be refunded minus a 15% admin fee. Please note that places on these courses are limited and as a result places cancelled with less than 7 days notice will not receive a refund or event transfer. Payment for the event should be received 48 hours in advance of the event, unless otherwise agreed with the company.

Play and Learn sessions are restricted to dogs who are either in, or have recently graduated from, our own classes. This allows us to group compatible dogs together so that sessions are balanced and beneficial to all who attend. This does mean that we are unable to extend the invitation to other dogs you know, but are unknown to us. Again, this is for the benefit of those who attend to make sure we reliably provide a positive experience for you.

General Terms and Conditions

The Clever Canine Company has made an ongoing commitment to provide an ethical standard of training, using modern, science-based methods which do not harm the relationship between you and your dog.  We therefore DO NOT accept any harsh handling of dogs or allow the following equipment at our classes:

  • choke/check chains
  • half choke/check chains
  • electric shock or e-collars
  • prong collars
  • citronella collars
  • air collars
  • air canisters
  • hushers
  • rattle cans
  • water guns
  • aversive taste deterrents

In exchange for not using these devices, we will show you humane methods of achieving the same level of training, without damaging the trust and bond between you and your dog.

For class, we ask that you equip your dog with a flat collar and/or a well-fitting harness, with a fixed length lead. Retractable/extendable leads are not an appropriate tool in the enclosed space of group classes.

Please be aware that during our contact with you and your dog, if we believe your dog may be experiencing clinical symptoms which may impact their health, wellbeing or behaviour, we will refer you to your vet for them to be checked out.

All sessions (group and individual) last around an hour - this is not enough time to fully train your dog or modify their behaviour. Regular practise between sessions is needed and the results you get will depend upon the level of practise you're able to commit to outside of sessions.

We recognise that training and behaviour modification can at times be frustrating; we are here to provide kind, caring, professional support to you. Any aggressive or threatening language directed towards The Clever Canine Company staff, or other course members, will result in immediate termination of your participation without refund.
